IPFT seeks rectification in SIR enumeration forms

Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), junior partner in the BJP-led coalition government on Tuesday demanded rectification of the SIR enumeration forms issued by the Election Commission of India stating that the newly enacted citizenship law was not applicable in the sixth schedule areas of the North East and hence the Election Commission should introduce new columns for citizenship related documents for people living ADC and non-ADC areas. 

IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma said that a delegation of IPFT central committee would meet in a deputation at the Election Commission of India’s central office in Delhi.

“We have already registered our views with the office of Chief Electoral Officer. It has been decided by our movement committee that a delegation should meet the Election Commission of India officials as well. All Booth Level Agents of the party had been advised to contact the party’s state leadership to move forward with the issue. The Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 is not applicable in TTAADC areas. In view of this, separate columns must be introduced for the citizens residing in ADC and non-ADC. The CEO had been made aware of our reservations related to the matter,” said Debbarma. 

According to Debbarma, the prescribed enumeration forms had been shared with all political parties. 

Debbarma also informed the media persons that on August 23 next, IPFT would organise its separate statehood demand protest at Jantar Mantar New Delhi. 

“IPFT since its inception had been demanding the creation of a separate state covering the sixth schedule areas under the TTAADC. August 23 is observed as the Tipraland Statehood demand day every year and this year as well, our party activists will participate in the sit-in demonstration at Jantar Mantar,” he added. 

In this regard, Debbarma said, names of five party functionaries from all divisions will be selected who would participate in the protests.
