The Government of Tripura has formally reappointed Jharna Debbarma as the Chairperson of the Tripura State Commission for Women (TCW) for another three‑year term, reaffirming her leadership in safeguarding women’s rights and welfare in the state.
According to a notification issued by the Education (Social Welfare & Social Education) Department on September 25, 2026, the reappointment has been made under Section 6(iv) of the Gazette Notification and the Tripura Commission for Women Rules, 2008, which govern the service conditions of the Chairperson, Vice‑Chairperson, and members. The order specifies that Debbarma’s tenure will continue with effect from September 24, 2026, for a further period of three years.
In addition to her continuation, the government has also reconstituted the Commission by appointing three new members against existing vacancies. The newly appointed members are Sujata Deb, Megha Paul (Chowdhury), and Mampi Das, each of whom will serve for a three‑year term from the date of assuming charge.
The notifications, issued by the Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura, have been forwarded to senior constitutional and administrative authorities including the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and relevant officials in the Social Welfare and Social Education Department.
The reconstitution of the Commission ensures continuity of leadership under Jharna Debbarma while bringing in new perspectives through the appointment of three members. Observers note that the move comes at a time when the Commission’s role in addressing issues of women’s safety, empowerment, and welfare is increasingly critical.
With Debbarma’s reappointment and the induction of new members, the Commission is expected to strengthen its initiatives, expand outreach, and continue to serve as a key institution for protecting women’s rights in Tripura.
