Santirbazar, Mar 8: For the first time, MLA elected from Jolaibari has found a place in the State cabinet. Shukla Charan Noatia of the BJP-IPFT alliance wrested the seat from CPM in the 2023 election. Noatia got 17621 votes and defeated his nearest rival Debendra Tripura of CPM by 375 votes.
Even as popular expectation was that BJP’s candidate would contest from Jolaibari – however, for the interest of the alliance, the seat was left for saffron ally IPFT.
Led by Jolaibari Mandal president Ajoy Reang launched a spirited campaign for Noatia as per the party’s decision. In the process, Ajoy Reang along with others demonstrated loyalty to the saffron party and sincerely worked for Noatia's victory.
The situation was such that Reang and other local leaders had to get the voters acquainted with the IPFT’s poll symbol. Staying behind the curtain, Jolaibari Mandal leaders and activists launched an intensive campaign for Noatia. The campaign was successful in bringing different indigenous communities on the saffron platform and working together for the victory of Noatia.
With the victory of Noatia, CPM has lost another left bastion – Jolaibari. Local people relied on Noatia and now it is time for Noatia to do as much as possible as a Minister, opined a Kowaiphung-based villager.
