JRC win friendly cricket match

A friendly cricket match was held between Pragati Play Centre Guardians’ Forum and the Journalist Recreation Club (JRC). Despite their busy professional lives, players and organisers from both teams enjoyed the one-day sporting event meant for recreation and relaxation.

Before the match began, Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder attended a brief ceremony where he extended greetings to both teams. He also released doves in the sky as a message of peace and drug-free living, adding a special touch to the event. Players and guests alike expressed their hope that such friendly matches would continue in the future to strengthen relations between the two sides.

The Mayor praised the coaches and guardians of Pragati Play Centre, noting that many cricketers from the centre have risen to the state-level cricket arena.

The match began at 10:30 a.m. at the local Bholagiri Ground. Winning the toss, JRC captain Abhishek Dey opted to bowl first. Pragati Play Centre Guardians’ Forum scored 100 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 16 overs. In reply, Journalist Recreation Club chased down the target in just 11.3 overs without losing a single wicket.

An excellent opening partnership by Meghadhan Deb and Tapas Deb guided JRC to victory. Meghadhan scored an unbeaten 60, hitting one boundary and six sixes, while Tapas contributed an unbeaten 30 with one boundary and two sixes.

For Pragati Play Forum, Soumen Kar played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 38 with two boundaries and three sixes. Sanjay Deb added 18 runs, thanks to three sixes. In bowling, Manojit Das took two wickets for 14 runs, while Bapan Das also claimed two wickets for 31 runs. Dibyendu Dey and Prasenjit Saha bagged one wicket each.

For his outstanding batting, Meghadhan was awarded Player of the Match. Pranab Shil received the Best Fielder award, and Soumen Kar was honoured as Best Batter.

After the match, a special ceremony was held where distinguished guests including well-known cricket coach Nayon Debbarma, former cricketer Suman Deb, JRC president Suprabhat Debnath, Secretary Abhishek Dey, and members of the Guardians’ Forum handed over the champions’ and runners-up trophies. Abhishek Dey and Nayon Debbarma received special felicitations. All JRC players were presented with gift hampers. JRC president Suprabhat Debnath and Secretary Abhishek Dey thanked everyone involved.
