Kalyanpur gang-rape: Two nabbed so far, 2 accused still at large

Agartala/ Kalyanpur, Oct 27: Tripura Police arrested two FIR named accused persons- Tapas Debnath and Aditya Das, an elected member of ruling party in West Dwarikapur Panchayat, in connection with a gang-rape incident that has been reported from Kalyanpur in Khowai district on Tuesday night.
While the police picked up Tapas on Wednesday, a day after the incident, the other person- Aditya was nabbed on Thursday.
The case registered at Kalyanpur police station under sections 341/325/382B/354/376D/A/ 34 of IPC and section 4 of POCSO Act named four accused persons. Among them, two accused persons including a local leader (Upa Pradhan) of the ruling party are still at large.
A police press release said, raids are being continued to arrest the remaining accused persons. All necessary legal steps have been taken including medical check-up and recording of the judicial statement of the victim girl.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim girl was taken to a abandoned house at Khas Kalyanpur by the FIR named accused persons while she was going to Khas Kalyanpur along with her friends. Subsequently, the girl was gang raped,” the press release issued by the Police Headquarters said.
It also stated, Tripura Police is giving highest priority to preventing crime against women in the state. Further investigation is going on.
Meanwhile, first the Kumarghat gang-rape and now the Kalyanpur gang-rape threw a tough challenge to both the state government as well as the ruling BJP as the opposition parties intensified their protests blaming the government for crime against women.
