Kalyanpur Oct 27: In connection with the gang rape of a minor girl in Kalyanpur, police arrested one more accused person.
Teliamura Divisional Police Officer Prasun Kanti Tripura said Aditya Das, an elected member of West Dwarikapur Panchayat, was arrested on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the incident.
While OC Udyam Debbarma said that detained Aditya Das is the prime villain of the incident.
Earlier an accused namely, Tapash Debnath was detained by police who on Thursday was produced before the Khowai district Court seeking 5-days police remand.
On the other hand, the incident of gang rape has given extra mileage to the opposition political parties.
Thursday, the Congress marched from Gungraichra to Khas Kalyanpur to protest the incident and demanded punishment of the culprits. Khowai district Congress president Bikram Kishore Sinha, youth leader Kartik Debnath, PCC member Ashok Dev and others took part in the rally.
The CPI(M) party leaders and members also marched to Kalyanpur police station and placed deputation under the initiative of Teliamura subdivisional committee.
However, the police stopped the procession before entering the police station.
The delegation included CPI-M Khowai district board member Subhash Nath, Padma Kumar Debbarma, Teliamura subdivision committee secretary Hemanta Kumar Jamatia, former MLA Manindra Das, CPIM leader Subir Sen, Ajay Ghosh, Gayatri Dutta and others.
Meanwhile, in connection to the similar incident of gang rape of a minor girl, a delegation led by Trinamool Congress state women's wing president Panna Deb met Teliamura sub-divisional police officer Prasun Kanti Tripura at the Kalyanpur police station.
Apart from Panna Deb, the delegation included Vice President Sampa Das, State Committee General Secretary Mahua Chakraborty, Agartala Sadar District President Sutapa Ghosh, Khowai District President Sheela Pal, Monika Majumder and others.
Panna Deb slammed the BJP government over its “Beti Padhao Beti Bachao” slogan adding that where women of the state are not safe, BJP is boating about women empowerment.
Notably, the family members of the victim filed a written complaint mentioning the names of four accused persons viz. Aditya Das, Tapas Debnath, Ratan Debnath, and Bidhan Dutta.
Out of the four, Tapas Debnath was arrested by the police on Wednesday and Aditya Das, the main accused, was arrested from Baraighota forest on Thursday morning by police station OC Udyam Debbarma.
He will be sent to court tomorrow seeking police remand while two more remains absconding yet.
All in all, a heated situation surfaced in entire Kalyanpur centering the gang rape of a minor girl.
