Kishor lays foundation stone of new Panchayat building

Panchayat Minister and Nalchar MLA Kishor Barman on Friday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new two-storey building for the Bogabasa Gram Panchayat office under Nalchar block, officials said.

The existing panchayat office at Bogabasa village is small and inadequate to cater to the day-to-day administrative needs of thousands of residents dependent on the gram panchayat. For several years, villagers had been demanding a larger and more functional office building, but the proposal failed to gain momentum due to the absence of effective administrative initiative, local residents said.

Responding to the long-pending demand, Barman formally inaugurated the construction work by performing the traditional ‘bhumi pujan’ ceremony. A large number of villagers were present on the occasion and witnessed the formal beginning of the project, which is expected to significantly strengthen grassroots governance in the area.

Addressing the gathering, the minister laid emphasis on the importance of gram panchayats as the first and most crucial tier of the country’s administrative system. He said improving infrastructure at the village level was essential to ensure efficient delivery of government services and effective implementation of welfare schemes.
