League cricket: Oriental emerge champs in Belonia

Oriental Club emerged as the best team of the subdivision, thanks to an all-round performance by Tapas Chowdhury. In an exciting final match on Saturday, Oriental Club defeated Swami Vivekananda Sports Club by 15 runs in the Senior Club League Cricket tournament organized by the Subdivision Cricket Association.

Chasing Oriental Club’s total of 109 runs, Swami Vivekananda Sports Club managed only 94 runs, despite Amit Ghosh’s devastating bowling effort going in vain. The match was held at Vidyapith Mini Stadium on Saturday.

Earlier in the morning, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Oriental Club was bowled out for just 109 runs in the face of Amit Ghosh’s destructive bowling. For the team, Nabajit Dey scored 37 off 39 balls with four boundaries and two sixes, Tapas Chowdhury made 31 off 23 balls with three boundaries and two sixes, and Tanmoy Das added 11 off 24 balls with one boundary. For Swami Vivekananda Sports Club, Amit Ghosh took five wickets for 16 runs, while Uday Mitra claimed three wickets for 27 runs.

In reply, Swami Vivekananda Sports Club could score only 94 runs. For the team, Uday Mitra made 24 off 43 balls with three boundaries, Raj Majumdar scored 18 off 37 balls with two boundaries, Biswajit Mitra added 14 off 30 balls with one boundary, and Kapil Deb scored 13 off 21 balls with one boundary. No other batsman could reach double figures. The team collected 12 runs in extras. For Oriental Club, Tapas Chowdhury took four wickets for 18 runs, Biplab Dey picked up three wickets for 11 runs, and Niladri Bhowmik claimed two wickets for 19 runs.
