In a dramatic display of courage, skill, and humanity, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Prasenjit Sukla Baidya once again proved that life saving service knows no boundaries of place or circumstance.
On Friday, 25-year-old Pusti Rung Reang, wife of Janmajoy Reang and resident of Krishnatilla, was being transported from Kumarghat Primary Health Centre to Unakoti District Hospital when she went into labour inside the ambulance.
With nerves of steel and a heart committed to service, EMT Baidya swiftly rose to the occasion, conducting the delivery inside the moving vehicle.
His presence of mind, timely intervention, and professional handling ensured the safety of both mother and child in what could have been a perilous situation. The newborn was delivered safely, and both mother and baby are reported to be in good health.
This was not an isolated feat. Remarkably, this marks the fourth successful delivery inside an ambulance by EMT Baidya, underscoring his extraordinary commitment to emergency medical care.
His actions have drawn widespread appreciation, symbolizing the very essence of frontline service—courage under pressure and compassion in crisis.
The ambulance service that made this possible is part of the 102 Ambulance Project, launched in March 2020 under a memorandum of understanding between Community Action Through Motivation Programme (CAMP) and the National Health Mission (NHM).
The project was inaugurated by then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, and since its inception, it has become a lifeline for countless patients across Tripura.
Friday’s incident is being hailed as a shining example of how emergency medical services are transforming healthcare delivery in rural and remote areas.
The 102 Ambulance Project has not only ensured timely medical transport but has also created a platform where trained EMTs like Baidya can save lives in the most challenging circumstances.
