The Tripura Commission for Women (TCW), under the aegis of the National Commission for Women, organised an awareness and training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Agartala to familiarise women with the emerging technology and its potential for self-employment.

Speaking about the programme, Tripura State Commission for Women Chairperson Jharna Debbarma said AI was a major development in the field of information technology and could play an important role in women’s empowerment if used rationally and properly.

She said women needed to acquire knowledge about new technological advancements to equip themselves with skills that could open up new avenues for employment and self-employment.

“This is why we are organising this event to make the stakeholders in the field of women empowerment aware of this,” Debbarma said.

The programme, titled “Awareness cum Training Programme on Yashodha AI”, was held at a private hotel in Agartala. Women representatives from different government offices, students from various institutions and women from the unorganised sector participated in the programme.

Debbarma said the programme was aimed at making women empowered and prepared for self-employment opportunities, including avenues that could allow them to work without having to venture out of their homes.

She said participants included female representatives from government offices as well as students from different institutions. Women from the unorganised sector also attended the programme.

The participants were introduced to the potential applications of AI and the need to understand emerging technological developments. The programme also focused on the ethical use of AI to harness its potential, according to the organisers.

Two resource persons were invited to address the participants on the ethical use of AI and ways to harness its optimum potential.

The initiative sought to make women and other stakeholders involved in women’s empowerment more aware of the opportunities emerging from AI and the skills required to make use of the technology.

The organisers said the programme was intended to help participants understand the changing technological landscape and equip themselves with relevant knowledge and skills for employment and self-employment opportunities.

It should be noted here that YASHODA AI is an initiative of the National Commission for Women (NCW) aimed at increasing women’s awareness and understanding of Artificial Intelligence.

In simple terms, it is a women-focused AI awareness and training initiative intended to help participants understand how AI can be used in areas such as education, employment, entrepreneurship and everyday activities. It also emphasises responsible and ethical use of AI.
