Liquid nitrogen plant inaugurated in Tripura

Tripura Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhangshu Das on Tuesday inaugurated a liquid nitrogen production centre and a newly constructed office building at Radhakishore Nagar.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Das said the Animal Resource Development Department plays an important role in securing the livelihoods of livestock farmers in the state.

He said, “Expansion of modern animal husbandry technology is essential for strengthening the rural economy, increasing the income of livestock rearers and promoting the dairy sector. The state government has been implementing various development programmes to achieve these objectives.”

Das expressed hope that the commissioning of the liquid nitrogen production centre would make the state's artificial insemination programme for cattle more effective and dynamic.

He said the facility would help increase the production of improved breeds of livestock and contribute to growth in the animal husbandry and dairy sectors.

According to the minister, the state is expected to achieve self-sufficiency in liquid nitrogen production once production begins at three plants under the project. 

He said this would ensure an uninterrupted supply of liquid nitrogen required for artificial insemination programmes and reduce dependence on supplies from other states.

MLA Ratan Chakraborty, who was also present at the inaugural function, highlighted the role of the state government in overall development and the growth of the animal resource sector.

Animal Resource Development Department Secretary Deepa D. Nair and Director Dr Neeraj Kumar Chanchal also addressed the gathering.

The programme was chaired by acting Sabhadhipati of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Biswajit Shil.

In the second phase of the event, selected mobile artificial insemination workers under the Government of India's Maitri project were provided equipment and materials required for carrying out artificial insemination services.
