Agartala/Teliamura Jan 31: Medicos of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre (ABV RCC) in Agartala achieved another glorious success in Onco-Surgery as well as made the RCC ‘self-reliant’ – no more dependent on onco-surgeons of other States.
For the first time, Onco-Surgeons of our State – Dr Amlan Debbarma, Dr Rahul Deb, Dr Sailat Sen, Dr Rakesh Tripura along with anaesthetists – Dr Mrinal Kanti Debbarma and Dr Partha Debbarma, successfully performed a critical onco-surgery on a 60-year-old patient who was suffering from cancer in windpipe larynx, at the ABV-RCC on Tuesday. After a 7-hour-long operation, the medical team successfully extracted the cancer-affected cells. According to the sources, the patient is doing well.
The 60-year-old male patient, Munna Singh, was suffering from the rarest type of cancer in the windpipe larynx - Chondrosarcoma Larynx. The patient’s relatives took Singh to Kolkata Thakurpukur cancer Hospital and later he was taken to Silchar. But the patient did not get any treatment, alleged the patient’s relatives.
Meantime, all the cartilage of the larynx was destroyed.
Ultimately, the patient was brought into RCC in critical condition and after conducting medical check-ups, doctors led by Dr Amlan Debbarma decided to perform surgery.
Doctors said, the patient was suffering from a rare type of cancer and the disease was in 4th stage. However, after the successful surgery, life expectancy of the patient will considerably improve and further course of treatment will be decided based on examination of the extracted cancer affted portion.
