Tripura Police in coordination with the Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), seized a massive consignment of banned cough syrup worth over Rs 80 lakh at Agartala Railway Station.
Â
The operation unfolded Tuesday late night during a routine inspection of a parcel wagon attached to the Garib Rath Express. Officials reportedly detected a suspicious odor emanating from the wagon, prompting a thorough search. Inside, security personnel discovered 2,998 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup concealed in 10 jute bags. Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment originated from Kolkata.

One individual, identified as Rakesh Hossain (44) of Rajnagar under West Agartala Police Station, has been detained for questioning. Police sources said Hossain, linked to a courier service, had arrived at the station to collect the parcel.
Â
Authorities have registered a case and initiated legal proceedings. Investigators are now probing the supply chain to determine the intended destination of the consignment and whether an organized smuggling network is behind the illegal trade.
