The Bishramganj Fire Service Office on Tuesday observed Martyrs’ Day with solemnity and respect, paying tribute to the 66 fire service personnel who lost their lives in the Bombay Explosion of 1944 while battling a devastating blaze at Victoria Dock.
Â
The commemorative program was attended by fire service officers and staff, who began the ceremony with a moment of silence in memory of the fallen heroes. Floral tributes were offered, and the atmosphere remained deeply emotional and reverent throughout.
Â
Speaking on the occasion, Officer-in-Charge Rupendra Reang recalled the sacrifice of the firefighters on April 14, 1944. “This day is not just a date in history, but a symbol of duty and sacrifice. Every year we observe Martyrs’ Day to honor their courage and to remind ourselves of the responsibility we carry,” he said.
Â
He added that such observances inspire younger generations of fire service personnel to embrace values of responsibility, bravery, and service to humanity. Attendees pledged to continue serving the public with dedication, drawing strength from the legacy of those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
Â
Officials emphasized that firefighters routinely risk their lives to protect people and property, and society must always remember and honor their sacrifices.Â
