The city’s healthcare infrastructure is set for a major boost as Mayor Dipak Majumdar inspected the newly built Agartala Civil Hospital on Wednesday, assuring that the facility will be opened to the public soon.
Â
During his visit, Majumdar emphasized that the hospital is in its final stages of completion and reiterated the Municipal Corporation’s commitment to providing modern, accessible healthcare services to residents. “Agartala Municipal Corporation wants this hospital to be opened for the people at the earliest,” he told reporters after reviewing the progress.
Â
The Civil Hospital, located near Jackson Gate, has been designed as a 50-bed facility to ease the burden on GB Pant and IGM Hospitals, which currently face heavy patient loads. The hospital will feature: Multiple outpatient departments (OPDs) across key specialties; A minor operation theater for small surgical procedures; Extended operating hours from 8 AM to 8 PM, ensuring convenience for working families; Modern infrastructure, including lifts and patient-friendly amenities.
Â
The project is modeled on successful municipal-run hospitals in cities like Mumbai, with the Agartala Municipal Corporation directly managing operations.
Â
Earlier, the Mayor noted that the Civil Hospital is part of a broader initiative by the state government to strengthen healthcare delivery.Â
Â
Wednesday, Majumder was accompanied by local corporator Ratna Dutta, Additional Commissioner Agartala Municipal Corporation Mihir Ghosh, and senior hospital officials, who briefed him on the preparations underway.
