Mega eye camp held at Santirbazar district hospital

A mega eye camp was organised at Santirbazar District Hospital where 33 patients underwent eye surgeries, hospital officials said on Saturday.

The camp was conducted in the presence of Prof Dr Phani Sarkar from AGMC, with support from the hospital’s ophthalmology department headed by Dr Umakanta Acharjee. Officials said the initiative was aimed at strengthening advanced eye care services at the district level so that patients would not have to travel to Agartala for specialised treatment.

Dr Acharjee said several of the cases handled during the camp involved complicated eye conditions that were earlier referred to tertiary care centres. He stated that the availability of improved infrastructure and specialist collaboration had enabled the hospital to conduct complex procedures locally.

Prof Sarkar expressed satisfaction with the surgical facilities and overall infrastructure at the district hospital. He noted that the upgraded operation theatre and availability of necessary equipment have enhanced the hospital’s capacity to manage advanced ophthalmic cases.
