Agartala, Nov 22: Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, held a detailed meeting with district-level officers to review the progress of various public welfare schemes initiated by the Government of India, today at Khowai district, Tripura.
“This visit served as a powerful reminder of the importance of women's empowerment, and the transformative impact of self-reliance in building a more resilient and prosperous society. " said the Minister during the visit.
The Minister started his day by engaging in meaningful dialogue with destitute women, at the old age home cum shelter established under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya National Urban Livelihood Mission.The Minister conveyed the Hon'ble Prime Minister's commitment to their welfare and assuring them of continued government support,
The Minister also visited the Indo-Bangladesh border fence and met with BSF personnel, recognizing and commending their dedication to national security.
One of the visit's highlights was the Griha Pravesh event, where the Minister cut the ribbon for a Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) beneficiary. The beneficiary, accompanied by local officials and the residents, showed her appreciation by blowing conch and showering the Minister with flowers in a traditional warm greeting.
The Minister inaugurated an exhibition organized by self-help group members at the newly constructed Khowai bus stand. Women shared their transformative progress in their social and economic condition, detailing how government support has empowered them to become job creators rather than job seekers. “At the Khowai bus stand, I heard from the women of the self-help group how the Government of India helped them become self-reliant and now they have become employment generating sisters. ” said the Minister. “Their heartfelt appreciation for the Prime Minister’s initiatives underscored the positive impact of the initiatives on their lives.” He further added.
In the final phase of the visit, the Minister inspected the Tertiary Centre for Solid Waste established under the Swachh Bharat Mission, where he interacted with self-help group sisters who are running the center and generating additional income by processing plastic waste and organic waste through machines.
“ This visit to Khowai district, underscores the government's strong focus and commitment on improving community welfare and reinforcing local initiatives in Tripura. Furthermore, it was inspiring to hear the story of power and self-reliance of sisters in the community, fueled by our Prime Minister's innovative leadership and initiatives. Women are playing pivotal roles in uplifting their families and communities through their entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, and determination.” , the minister wrote in a social media tweet.
