MP Biplab Deb steps up efforts for Manashreess treatment, to take up matter with JP Nadda

West Tripura MP and former Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb has stepped up efforts to facilitate advanced treatment for Hapania’s Manashree Chowdhury, the child battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and is scheduled to speak with Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda on Wednesday evening to seek the Centre's support.

Deb recently held a virtual interaction with Manashree's father to understand her medical condition and sought a detailed written report on the status of her treatment and the proposed life-saving therapy. 

He assured the family that he would make every possible effort to secure assistance from the Central Government.

Following a request from the family, Deb has also facilitated the advancement of Manashree's appointment with SMA specialist Dr. Sheffali Gulati at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

It was learned that preliminary discussions have already been held with the Union Health Ministry in this regard.

Manashree's father has urged the MP to seek the Centre's intervention to procure the life-saving medicine through the Government of India with the approval of the Union Health Minister. He has also requested assistance in exploring access to the drug under the manufacturer's Compassionate Access Programme.

Deb is coordinating with the Union Health Ministry not only to facilitate the immediate treatment but also to ensure that Manashree receives all possible support for her subsequent advanced medical care.
