Natural farming has emerged as a beacon of hope in Tripura’s rural belt, with Champamura village in Sepahijala district showcasing remarkable success.
Â
Farmers here, relying on cow dung, cow urine, and organic inputs instead of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, have achieved higher yields at lower costs while ensuring soil health and sustainability.
Â
Over 232 families in Champamura have adopted natural farming, cultivating rice, pulses, vegetables, and millets with improved taste, reduced pest attacks, and better market demand.
Â
Farmers like Biswajit Natta, Manik Laskar, Babul Natta, and Shibu Shil have demonstrated how intercropping and organic practices can boost productivity and conserve water.
Â
Local women’s self-help groups, led by Archana Natta, are training others, spreading awareness, and building market linkages for organic produce.
Â
The state agriculture department and Tripura’s Natural Farming Scheme are providing training, subsidies, and certification to strengthen this movement.
Â
Natural farming in Champamura is not just improving livelihoods but also offering a sustainable model against climate change and chemical dependency. The village’s success is now inspiring other communities across Tripura.
