ncc training helps students become responsible says tripura university vice-chancellor

Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das has underlined the growing importance of National Cadet Corps (NCC) training in shaping students into disciplined, responsible citizens with leadership qualities and civic awareness.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel in Agartala, Das said that more young people are now joining NCC out of their own interest, recognising its role in their overall development.

“The NCC shows students the path to becoming good citizens. Students have now realised its importance. Its reflection can also be seen in their marksheets. Today, students are joining NCC training out of their own interest,” Das remarked, stressing that participation in NCC activities was no longer driven by compulsion but by genuine enthusiasm.

Das was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony of a 15-day NCC camp held at the youth hostel. He highlighted the role of universities and colleges in encouraging students to take part in NCC programmes, noting that educational institutions can create opportunities for training and activities that go beyond classroom learning.

The ceremony was attended by Major General Anurag Vij, Additional Director General of NCC and Director of the NCC Directorate (North Eastern Region), and Lieutenant Colonel Rohan Gupta, Commanding Officer of the 15th Battalion, NCC. Prof. Das was felicitated during the event.

The camp provided cadets with exposure to discipline, teamwork, leadership, and service-oriented activities, reinforcing the NCC’s mission of promoting character-building and responsible citizenship. Senior NCC officials, officers, and cadets joined the programme, which marked the conclusion of the intensive training session.

Das said the growing participation of students in NCC activities reflected their recognition of the value of such training alongside formal education.

He urged institutions to continue supporting NCC initiatives, which he described as vital for preparing youth to contribute positively to society.
