Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday asserted that the NDA formation would sweep at least 90 percent seats in VCs across the TTAADC areas of the state a day before the results of the elections were slated to be declared. The elections were conducted on September 28 last.

The Chief Minister was interacting with media persons.

He has asked party workers to reach out to people by highlighting the government's development initiatives and delivery of civic services ahead of the upcoming municipal elections.

On being asked about post-poll violence, Dr Saha said, “Before coming to post-poll violence, we have to look at the polling in the VCs. This time there was practically no violence other than that of a couple of stray incidents and one big incident. Investigation is underway to trace the people involved in the violence.

“I hope nothing will happen this time,” said Dr Saha.

On being asked about the urban local body polls, Dr Saha said that improvements in civic amenities and measures to improve law and order has gained momentum.

“Roads and lanes that were previously in poor condition had been improved and infrastructure work was being undertaken in different localities,” he said.

Rejecting the opposition's criticism over infrastructure and improved civic amenities, Dr Saha said, “I am surprised to hear what the leaders from opposition parties have been saying on the urban projects we have undertaken. They are telling lies on the face of people. This is unacceptable.”

Saha said work was also underway to improve and beautify lakes and ponds in municipal areas. He said electricity connections, drinking water facilities and the supply of purified drinking water among the basic services being extended to residents.

The government was also working to improve the law and order situation, he said.

The chief minister claimed that people were facing fewer difficulties in accessing government services and benefits. Services related to Aadhaar cards, certificates and allowances had become more accessible, he said.

Alleging that people earlier had to depend on intermediaries to obtain certain services, Dr Saha said his government would not allow brokers or middlemen to operate in the delivery of public services.
