Newly elected MDC from Kanchanpur Bhabaranjan Reang was on Tuesday sworn in as the new Chairman of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. He replaced senior Tipra Motha leader Jagadish Debbarma.Â
The swearing in ceremony was conducted at the ADC headquarters in the presence of all newly elected MDCs. CEM-elect Runiel Debbarma and EM CK Jamatia would be sworn in to their respective posts on Wednesday.Â
Later, the newly elected MDCs of the Tipra Motha party along with MLA Ranjit Debbarma and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma met Governor of Tripura Indrasena Reddy Nallu at Lok Bhavan Tripura.Â
During the courtesy call, the Tipra Motha leaders invited the Governor to remain present in the swearing in ceremony. “It was a courtesy call. During the discussions, we have informed the Governor about the decision of our MDCs who have elected CEM and Chairman of their choice during a party meeting held earlier,” said CEM-elect Runiel Debbarma.Â
According to him, the Governor has assured the Tipra Motha leaders of visiting the council headquarters and remote villages under the district council.Â
“He gave us a patient hearing on the problems related to TTAADC and assured us that after the oath taking he would physically visit some of the areas that are still bereft of mainstream development and connectivity. He has also assured all sorts of help,” he said.Â
Earlier, Debbarma expressed his disappointment over the cheap politics on the funding issues of the TTAADC. “From our end, we have repeatedly said that the funds we receive is not enough for the ADC areas and we have enough evidence to substantiate that. If the BJP has proof against let them do what is legally possible,” he added.Â
On being asked about his priorities as the head of TTAADC administration, Debbarma said, “With whatever funds we get, my priorities will be to make sure that people get the best services in terms of education, health and drinking water. These are the sectors that need urgent attention.”Â
