Nine Schools without Headmasters in Ramchandraghat, MLA Ranjit Debbarma flags crisis to CM 

An acute administrative crisis has gripped the education sector in Tripura’s Ramchandraghat Assembly Constituency, where nine government schools are functioning without permanent headmasters. The absence of leadership has sparked concern among parents, teachers and local residents, who fear that academic standards and student welfare are being compromised.

Highlighting the issue, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has written to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, urging immediate appointments to restore stability. In his letter Debbarma described the schools as “orphaned institutions,” struggling to maintain discipline and implement educational programmes without proper administrative heads.

The crisis spans both higher secondary and high schools. Gourangatila, Ratanpur and Ampura Higher Secondary Schools are missing both headmasters and assistant headmasters. 

Baijalbari, Baramaydan and Birchandrapur Higher Secondary Schools have no headmasters and only one assistant headmaster each, with Baramaydan facing further uncertainty as its lone assistant headmaster is set to retire in September. 

At the high school level, KMR, Debendra Choudhury and Wandalwang High Schools are also operating without permanent headmasters.

Debbarma acknowledged the Chief Minister’s recent initiative of laying the foundation stone for a new building at Baijalbari Higher Secondary School, but stressed that infrastructure alone cannot guarantee quality education. “Without qualified leadership, classrooms remain directionless and students suffer,” he noted in his appeal.

Parents and community members echoed the MLA’s concerns, saying prolonged vacancies have left schools unable to enforce discipline or plan academic activities effectively. They urged the government to expedite recruitment, warning that continued neglect would erode confidence in public education.
