Agartala Nov 28: As the assembly elections in Tripura are inching closer, residents in various places especially in the suburbs are staging protests over lack of clean drinking water in the village.
Protesting villagers of Bhashkar Para under Manirampur ADC Village of Hrishyamukh Block have warned local administration of boycotting polls over unavailability of clean drinking water.
Urging the government to address the issue at the earliest, one of the villagers said, “We have been facing the problem of drinking water for many years. We have approached the concerned authorities and local leaders several times demanding clean drinking water, but our demands have gone in vain”.
“We won’t vote if safe drinking water is not provided to us. We have pledged to boycott the elections this time”, he added.
There are about 40 families living in the village, most of them tribals.
Although the state government has spent millions of rupees in the name of rural development in Surrey over four years, it is literally a development just on paper. There has been no improvement in the social status of the tribes. The communication situation in this village has become poor. Not only the communication problem, but the entire Bhaskar Para area has severe shortage of drinking water. Although there is a source of water in this neighborhood, it is also broken.
The villagers portrayed the problem of drinking water with much anger.
They said, “No one cares; from the block officer to the area leadership. Every year the political leaders have made various promises in the face of the election, but they have not done anything”.
The villagers demanded an immediate solution to the water crisis problem.
