Agartala Jan 27: Having received no written assurance from the Centre over its demand for a separate state, TIPRA Motha Supremo Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman on Friday announced to go for solo contest in the ensuing Tripura assembly elections.
Ruling out the speculations of alliance Pradyot in a video message on Friday said, “In last three days, many people have opined that TIPRA Motha is going for alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is completely false”.
“WE are not going to ally with any political party for Tripura Polls as we are sticking to the previous statement of written assurance”, he added.
“No compromise on our demands”, mentioned Pradyot in his statement.
He further added, “In past 46 years many regional parties went to Delhi ahead of elections and signed some or other agreement. But later after coming to power, all those promises mentioned in the agreement were never fulfilled resulting which the Tiprasa people are deprived yet”.
Called by the Centre for discussion, we all reached Delhi and patiently listened to what the Government of India representatives had to tell us. But as they failed to give us written assurance on our demand of ‘Greater Tipraland’ we are backing off from any sort of alliance, he added.
He added, “We are ready to field candidates and contest in 50-55 seats in the 60-member Tripura assembly on own and will announce the candidate list within Friday evening”.
Without naming any political party Pradyot said, “I will fight this election to defeat those who are against our demands”.
“Win or Lose, We will fight for one last time”, he asserted.
Contacting TIPRA Motha president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl over the matter of discussion in Delhi, he said, “We had several rounds of discussion, but the four pages draft handed to us that mentioned several promises but no mention of Greater Tipraland or Tipraland”.
“With no clear statement or written response that our Bubagra is pressing for long time there is no question of alliance”, he added.
For every TIPRA warrior, our people and party are supreme, and the decision of chairperson Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma in regard to the Assembly elections will be acceptable to all,” Motha president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl said.
