North Tripura District Hospital embarks on major modernization drive, says DM Chandni Chandran

The spotlight was firmly on healthcare reform this week as District Magistrate Chandni Chandran unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform North Tripura District Hospital into a modern, patient-friendly institution. 

Addressing the media at the Trauma Centre conference hall, she outlined a series of measures designed to strengthen infrastructure, expand services and ensure uninterrupted care for the people of the district.

At the heart of her announcement was the newly inaugurated Critical Care Unit, which began operations on August 5. Chandran proudly noted that the first patient admitted has already recovered and returned home, a success that demonstrates the unit’s capacity to deliver 24/7 emergency treatment throughout the year. “This is a milestone for our hospital. The CCU will ensure that critical patients receive immediate, specialised care without delay,” she said.

The District Magistrate also revealed plans to introduce nominal user charges for certain diagnostic services such as X-rays and ECGs, while assuring that BPL families, Antyodaya beneficiaries and other government-supported groups will continue to access these services free of cost. “Our aim is to balance sustainability with inclusivity. No one will be denied treatment because of financial constraints,” she emphasised.

Cleanliness and discipline within the hospital were highlighted as equally important. Chandran urged citizens to actively participate in maintaining a hygienic environment, stressing that healthcare delivery is a shared responsibility between administration and community.

The press conference, attended by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dipak Haldar and Medical Superintendent Dr. Bhaskar Das, also touched upon future plans. These include infrastructure upgrades, expansion of medical facilities, and adoption of modern technologies to make the hospital a model centre for public health in Tripura.

Officials underscored that the initiatives are part of a long-term vision to deliver healthcare that is not only efficient but also compassionate. With the CCU now operational and further reforms on the horizon, North Tripura District Hospital is poised to become a benchmark for accessible and quality healthcare in the state.
