
A preparatory meeting with representatives of various political parties was convened on Friday under the chairmanship of North Tripura District Magistrate and Election Officer Chandni Chandran.Â

The meeting, held at the District Magistrate’s conference hall, focused on arrangements for the upcoming by-election in the 56-Dharmanagar assembly constituency.

Senior officials including Additional District Magistrate Bijoy Sinha, Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Debjani Choudhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Kamal Debbarma, and DC Soma Saha were present. Representatives from major political parties such as the BJP, CPI(M), Congress, and other political parties also attended the session.

During the meeting, the District Magistrate announced that first-level checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units will be conducted on January 16 and 17. A district-level team has already been formed to oversee the process, ensuring transparency and adherence to election protocols.

Officials emphasized that representatives from all political parties must remain present during the checking to maintain fairness and credibility. The District Magistrate also outlined the rules and guidelines to be strictly followed in connection with the election process, reiterating the administration’s commitment to conducting free and fair polls.
