Agartala, May 12: Along with other parts of the country, International Nurses Day was observed in Tripura on Friday.
The state-level programme was organized by Tripura Nursing Council at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha was present.
The programme with the theme ‘Our Nurses, Our Future’ registered participation of a good number of nurses, nursing students and faculties.
Speaking in the programme, the Chief Minister said, Nurses are the backbone of the medical system; their dedication and commitment in giving care to the patients is commendable.
He asked the nurses to have patience while handling the patients. Every nurse must deliver the duty with a sense of social service.
At the beginning, the Chief Minister along with other guests paid floral tribute to the portrait of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
The Chief Minister said, the doctors depend on the nurses in case of surgery or providing health services in the hospital.
The state government is also sincere towards giving due respect to nurses for their dedicated service, the Chief Minister said. He also stressed on maintaining the guidelines of the Nursing Council in various nursing institutes of the state.
He said, young boys and girls of the state are now getting the opportunity to study ANM, GNM etc in the state itself. Earlier these courses were not available in the state.
The Chief Minister called upon nursing students to follow the footsteps of Florence Nightingale who set a benchmark in providing nursing services.
Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy said, the nurses have tirelessly and sincerely delivered their duties during the Covid-I9 outbreak. It is important to provide advance training to the nurses considering present time; it would strengthen the health system and benefit the people.
In his welcome speech, Director of Health Services Dr. Subhashish Debbanna said, total 2130 nurses are working in different healthcare institutes. They are working sincerely in delivering their duties. He also drew attention of the Chief Minister regarding shortage of nurses in the hospitals.
He said, there is a change in nomenclature of the nurses; as a token of respect, the staff nurses would be called Nursing Officer from now onwards. Besides, the state government has also taken sincere efforts towards giving respect to other nurses.
Health Secretary Dr. Debashish Basu, Health Education Director Prof. (Dr.) Har Prasad Sharma, Director in-charge of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Supriya Mallik and Registrar of Tripura Nursing Council Rebecca Darlong were present in the programme.
Students of different nursing institutes were awarded for their achievements. Besides, 3 nursing institutes were awarded for conducting blood donations.
