The ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative has achieved notable success across all eight districts of Tripura, with growing demand for the state’s indigenous products both within the country and abroad.
ODOP is a flagship programme of the Government of India aimed at identifying at least one unique, indigenous product from each district and promoting it through branding and marketing to drive regional development, economic growth and employment generation. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Vocal for Local’.
On Wednesday, a workshop and exhibition was organised at the Hapania International Fair Ground in Agartala by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
The event focused on strengthening linkages with entrepreneurs, who shared their experiences and challenges during an interactive session.
Addressing the programme as chief guest, Director of the Tripura Industries and Commerce Department, Dipak Kumar, said products from all eight districts of Tripura are witnessing rising demand nationwide.Â
He added that Tripura’s pineapple, Matabari peda, bamboo and cane handicrafts, and agar products are also gaining popularity in international markets. Acknowledging issues related to packaging and marketing, Kumar assured that dedicated cells would be set up at District Industries Centres (DICs) in all eight districts for product cataloguing, packaging and marketing support.
He also informed that work is underway to set up a Unity Mall in Agartala, where ODOP entrepreneurs will be able to sell their products.
ODOP official Dipangana Singh said that besides ODOP entrepreneurs, ‘Lakhpati Didi’ and SHG members can also participate in national-level trade fairs, Saras Melas and SHG fairs, and may directly approach the ODOP unit for support. Another official, Ishdeep Singh, said similar workshops are being organised across the country jointly with PIB to promote ODOP.
Entrepreneurs from various sectors highlighted their success stories and challenges, underscoring Tripura’s growing footprint in domestic and global markets under the ODOP initiative.
