Agartala May 16: To mitigate congestion and ensure smooth traffic movement across the capital city Agartala, a high-level meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said, “Keeping view of the increasing number of vehicles across the capital city with every passing day, traffic jams have become a common phenomenon and a matter of concern”.
He added, “The beautification of smart city, Agartala will be efficacious only if the city is freed from traffic congestion”.
“In the past five years under the present government no new permits were issued for the AMC areas. Only those who exchanged vehicles were provided permits. However, thinking about livelihood, around 16,000 permits were provided for auto rickshaws”, he said.
Talking about implementation of the plans chalked out in the meeting, Manik Das, SP Traffic said, “After having a detailed check of the important spots across the city, plans will be executed with the joint cooperation from all departments including Police”.
“Steps like awareness generation, enforcement drives will be carried out in the next few days. Apart from that strict action will be taken against street vendors without license”, he said.
Mayor Dipak Majumder also assured to extend all necessary steps to control traffic congestion that generates chaos in the city everyday.
Representatives of trade organizations, traffic department officials, police officials, AMC Councilors and others remained present at the meeting.
