Agartala, Oct 28: The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) Tripura state committee Friday expressed concern over the role of the government towards aiding the Sitrang-affected farmers across the state and demanded for an immediate aid from government’s end so as to control the market price of vegetables this season.
Addressing a press conference, the AIKS state committee leader Pabitra Kar said that though the cyclone had its mild influence in the state of Tripura, it affected the farmers in some parts of the state and especially in the North and South district of the state including some parts in the West district.
“A large part of the agricultural farming including paddy and mostly the vegetable farming was damaged due to the cyclone Sitrang this season. But what we have seen is that there has been no governmental initiative so far to aid the affected farmers and infact we found no governmental survey in this regard,” he said.
He said that the AIKS has decided to move to the concerned agriculture department with the demand of an immediate relief package for the affected farmers.
“Unless the government initiates compensation for the affected farmers, as their large part of agricultural fields were damaged, the price of vegetables would soar this winter season,” he said.
On the other hand, the CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar also criticized the government and alleged, “The Ghare Ghare Sushasan under the leadership of our new chief minister Dr. Manik Saha went in vain as the law and order situation of the state turned worse with the increasing rate of crime against women and minor girls.”
“During the last few days there has been series of gang rape like incidents, where the minor girls fell into the prey and the police are not eve daring to book the culprits as the sons and relatives of ministers and some influential leaders of the BJP are involved with those incidents,” he alleged.
He however questioned the role of police and said that at a time when the they failed to book the culprits involved with the rape cases, the police is rather focused on arresting the youths who are in protest against such incidents.
