
Traffic police on Sunday fined parents Rs 25,000 for rash driving of their underage boy in the city streets. The fine was imposed as per the new amendments brought in the motor vehicles Act.
Under Section 199A of the amended Motor Vehicles Act, Rs 25,000 fine has been prescribed for parents, guardians and registered vehicle owners who allow a minor to drive. Apart from fine, those responsible may face up to two to three months imprisonment.
The fine was imposed on Chandana Rudra Paul, wife of Arun Paul who is the registered vehicle owner. Sources said police intercepted a two-wheeler bearing a registration number of TR01AN7801 for reckless driving.
On being intercepted, the police came to know that the rider was a juvenile. According to rules, below 18 years no one is permitted to obtain a driving license or ride a motorcycle on the busy streets.
The two-wheeler was impounded and later the parents were called and fined. The challan was undersigned by Laljuithara Darlong, an inspector of West Agartala Police Station. Â Â
