Agartala, Jan 06: Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress claimed that ‘several thousands’ from Congress and CPM joined the party.
The tweeter statement of the TMC, however, did not specify as to how many –except that ambiguous several thousands- came to the party.
The programme that was held at the party office in the city was also addressed by the president Pijush Kanti Biswas who took a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah and alleged that Shah lied to the people of the State like he did in 2018.
“The visit of Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah is an attempt by the BJP government to cover up its false promises. He gave false information about the unemployment rate in Tripura”, alleged Biswas in a tweet.
Meantime, addressing a press meeting in Agartala on Friday, Pijush Biswas referred to the promises of implementing the 7th Central Pay Commission in State, 50,000 jobs in a year, and an increase in REGA wages etc. made prior to the 2018 State Assembly polls by the BJP which according to Biswas were not fulfilled.
Among others, TMC RS MP Sushmita Dev and State in-charge Rajib Banerjee were present in today’s press meeting.
He also alleged, “Under BJP rule, no industry was built in the state, and those who set up industrial units here have left the state under pressure from BJP leaders.”
Continuing his tirade against Shah, the Trinamool Congress State president said people are in distress owing to unabated price hikes – prices of gas, kerosene, petrol, diesel and other essential commodities have gone up during the BJP reign.
On the Drinking water issue, Biswas contradicted Shah’s comment that the potable water crisis in the State has been sorted out. “However, every day we find media reports about road blockades by villagers demanding water”, he said.
Sushmita Dev countered Amit Shah’s claim on development in the State and alleged, 70 per cent of households in rural areas do not have gas connections. On road connectivity, she claimed only 7.536 km of the road could have been constructed instead of 400 km.
Rajib Banerjee slammed the State government over the governance issue and alleged ‘Ghore Ghore Ku-shashon’ is going in the State in place of ‘Ghore Ghore Su-shashon’.
Party sources told media several voters under the leadership of ex-Congress member Tapan Biswas joined Trinamool Congress in Agartala today.
