New Delhi, May 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the new Parliament building after a 'Havan' and installed the historical 'Sengol' handed over to him by the 'Adheenams' (priests).
After the inauguration, the PM, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, cabinet ministers, and CMs of different states attended the 'sarv-dharma' prayer ceremony.
Several opposition parties boycotted the event saying President Droupadi Murmu should have been invited do the honours.
The new Parliament building can comfortably seat 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 in the Rajya Sabha chamber.
In case of a joint sitting of both the Houses, a total of 1,280 members can be accommodated in the Lok Sabha chamber.
The prime minister had laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament building on December 10, 2020.
