Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a firing incident at a contractor’s house in Netajinagar, while the main accused remains absconding.
The arrested person has been identified as Nayan Deb, who was apprehended from Guwahati following a special operation based on intelligence inputs.
Police said Deb had been under surveillance for alleged involvement in multiple criminal activities. He is also accused of issuing threats, including warning of an attack on a police station and issuing threats to journalists and a political functionary.
Police said Deb was directly linked to the Netajinagar firing incident and had been absconding since the incident. He was reportedly hiding in Guwahati before his arrest.
However, the main accused in the case, identified as Ranbir Debnath, is still at large. Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
“We are conducting raids at multiple locations and expect to arrest him soon,” a senior officer said.
