Kumarghat/Agartala Feb 05: Tension continues to brew in poll-bound Tripura with the assembly elections drawing closer. Scattered incidents of violence is continuing unabated amid deployment of central paramilitary forces (CPF) and claims of adequate security arrangements by SEC and Police administration.
As many as 7 CPIM workers were injured when BJP-backed miscreants launched attack on CPIM Party office in Jagannathpur under Fatikroy assembly constituency on Saturday night. 6 BJP karyakartas were injured in counter-attack.
Talking to our Kumarghat Correspondent CPIM Candidate from Fatikroy assembly constituency Subrata Das said, “At around 8.30 pm on Saturday night BJP activists launched an attack on CPIM Booth office in Telia village in Jagannathpur Gao Sabha area under Fatikroy assembly constituency”.
“The CPIM Cadres were engaged in discussions when BJP miscreants ambushed the Booth office following which CPIM Cadres Santu Paul, Miton Paul, Bappa Malakar, Rasiklal Das, Chanchal Das, Binoy Das and Ajit Malakar were brutally injured”, he said.
Meanwhile considering the critical situation of 3 CPIM workers they were referred to the GB hospital in capital city while rest are undergoing treatment at Kailasahar hospital.
Pradesh Congress president Brijit Sinha and CPIM leader Krishnendu Choudhury rushed to the Kailasahar hospital to see the injured workers.
Taking a stock of the situation, Brijit Sinha strongly condemned the incident. He said, “Without any provocation, the BJP miscreants have launched the attack and that too in presence of police”.
“The injured have identified the attackers and a case will be filed with their names. Also, the Election Commission will be made aware of the incident and a demand will be raised to suspend the police official in presence of whom the entire incident took place”, said Sinha.
CPIM leader Krishnendu Choudhury lambasted the sitting BJP MLA Sudhanshu Das holding him responsible for the attack on CPIM Cadres.
“Completely under the guidance of Sudhanshu Das, the attack was conducted to unleash a situation of terror and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere when the state is going for polls”, he said.
On the other hand, sitting MLA Sudhanshu Das ruled out the allegations and said that the BJP booth office in Telia village was attacked yesterday under the leadership of CPIM candidate Subrata Das, in which 7 BJP workers were seriously injured in an attempt to kill them. They are undergoing treatment at the primary health center in Fatikroy.
To inquire about the health of injured BJP karyakartas, Sudhanshu Das hurried to Fatikroy health centre.
He said, “The CPIM candidate has been trying to gain public sympathy since several months by terrorizing the area through media or other means, CPIM workers are threatening the senior BJP workers almost constantly and asking them not to support the BJP or visit the BJP party offices”.
Das also said that there was no political terrorism or violence anywhere in Fatikroy assembly constituency in the last five years but now with the elections drawing closer, the opposition CPIM has started spreading terror in the area.
The sitting MLA further urged the police administration to conduct a fair investigation of the incident and punish the culprits at the earliest.
Our Khowai Correspondent adds: At least 6 persons were injured in a bloody clash between Congress and CPIM in Sonatala Bazaar area in Khowai on Saturday night.
Besides, six bikes were vandalized and one was burnt.
A large number of security forces have been deployed in the area.
According to reports from police sources, a street meeting of the CPIM was held in Sonatola Bazar of 25-Khowai assembly constituency when few youths started abusing the leadership and supporters of CPIM who took part in the meeting.
A heated exchange developed between both the party activists that resulted into a bloody clash.
2 among six injured youths were referred to GB Hospital for treatment considering their critical situation.
In another incident of violence, flags and festoons of both CPIM and Congress were burnt down and destroyed in Jorapukur area of Bisramganj on late Saturday night.
Workers of both the parties came to know about the incident on Sunday morning.
Talking to the reporters, the workers said, “A joint meeting of both the parties was organized on Saturday night in the Jorapukur area under Charilam assembly constituency in support of Congress candidate Ashok Debbarma and area was decorated with party flags and festoons”.
“But the BJP-backed miscreants uprooted all flags and threw them in drains and pond and set fire to others”, alleged the opposition workers.
A case was filed with the Bisramganj Police Station on Sunday morning.
