Post-poll violence: Tripura CM warns of stringent action

Agartala, Mar 04: Dr. Manik Saha, who has been working as caretaker Chief Minister since his resignation on Friday, said stringent action would be taken against those involved in post-poll violence in various places.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Saha said, over 200 people were already arrested in connection with such incidents of political violence.
Meanwhile, several incidents of post-poll violence by Tipra Motha supporters and the opposition camp have been reported from various parts of the state since the results were announced on March 2 last.
In view of such incidents, the Chief Minister along with Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan held meetings in two districts- Khowai and Sepahijala. BJP state president Rajib BHattacharjee was also present.
He reviewed the situation and asked the authorities concerned to take stringent action against those involved in disturbing peace through post-poll violence. He said, any attempt to disturb the peace and law and order would be dealt with strictly.
Besides, the Chief Minister also warned of taking strong action in case of rumour mongering.
He said, a section is spreading rumors on social media with an ill intention. They would be identified and none of them would be spared, Dr. Saha warned.
The District Magistrates and police chief of both the districts were present in the review meetings.
