A prabhat pheri was organised in Kathaltali area of Tripura's Surjyamaninagar Assembly constituency on Thursday as part of a series of programmes being held to mark the death anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, organisers said.
The programme is being conducted under the supervision of Tripura Assembly Deputy Speaker and local MLA Ramprasad Paul and began on June 23. It will continue till July 10 across different parts of the constituency, they said.
According to the organisers, around 400 to 500 people participated in Thursday's procession, which started from Kathaltali and passed through various localities before concluding at a community hall.
A meeting was subsequently held at the venue where Paul spoke on the life, ideals and public service of Mookerjee.
A quiz competition based on Mookerjee's life and contributions was also organised for local residents. Winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs 500 each, the organisers said.
Addressing the gathering, Paul described Mookerjee as a patriotic leader and referred to his political contributions. He also spoke about Mookerjee's advocacy of the "One Nation, One Flag" concept and said the country was moving towards that objective under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The organisers said similar prabhat pheri programmes have been scheduled in different areas of the Surjyamaninagar Assembly constituency till July 10.
