Agartala, Jan 19: With barely less than a month left for the Assembly polls to Tripura Legislative Assembly, Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma held a closed-door meeting with North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi.
The Tipra Motha chief, as he said, clearly mentioned in the meeting that he would not compromise with the demand of Greater Tipraland. However, the meeting strengthened the speculations on the possible alliance between BJP and Tipra Motha.
“We shall not believe in any alliance without receiving written assurance. We will contest in 40-45 seats alone,” he told a news channel.
Tripura would go to assembly polls on February 15 next and the results would be announced on March 02.
The meeting between the two leaders is assumed to be significant in terms of the present political situation in Tripura. After the meeting, speculations are in the air that a major political development may take place in next few days. The opposition CPM and Congress already formed a poll alliance to defeat BJP in the coming election.
BJP and its alliance partner IPFT had won 44 out of 60 seats in the 2018 assembly elections and formed the government. CPM had secured in the remaining 16 seats.
