pratima meets union minister jyotiraditya scindia raises demand for agri markets better telecom in remote tripura

Former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik held a courtesy meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, during which she strongly pressed for the establishment of new agricultural markets and the improvement of telecommunication services in Tripura’s remote regions.

Bhoumik highlighted the urgent need for agri‑market infrastructure at Tholibari and Bashpukur in Kathalia Block, as well as at DM Colony and Amgachia in West Tripura district. She argued that these facilities would provide farmers with direct access to markets, reduce dependency on middlemen, and boost rural incomes.

The discussion also centred on the challenges faced by residents of Tripura’s interior villages, particularly in Sipahijala district’s Mohanbhog Block. Bhoumik pointed out that villages such as Chandul, Jagatrampur, Kalikhola, Nidoya, and Bhabanipur continue to suffer from poor mobile network coverage and inadequate telecom services.

She stressed that digital connectivity is a priority for ensuring access to education, healthcare, and government services in these areas. Bhoumik urged the Union Minister to extend central government support and initiate necessary steps to strengthen communication networks.

Speaking after the meeting, Bhoumik expressed optimism that the demands raised would soon translate into tangible benefits for the people. “Improved markets and better connectivity are not just conveniences—they are lifelines for rural communities. I am hopeful that the Centre’s cooperation will ensure these facilities reach the people quickly,” she said.

Bhoumik added, "The proposals, if implemented, are expected to significantly improve farmers’ livelihoods, enhance market accessibility, and bridge the digital divide in Tripura’s rural and hilly regions. For thousands of residents, these initiatives could mark a turning point in both economic and social development".
