The practice of private tuition by government school teachers has become rampant across the Belonia sub-division, sparking concern among locals and unemployed private tutors.Â
Many government teachers are neglecting their duties in schools and instead involving in private tuition at their homes or other places. According to sources, some of the teachers merely mark attendance at school registers before leaving the premises to focus on their private tuition businesses.
This widespread violation blatantly defies the directive issued by the Education department, which explicitly prohibits government school teachers from engaging in private tuition.
In such a situation, local residents from the Rajnagar block in Belonia, along with several unemployed home tutors, submitted formal complaints to the District Education Officer, South Tripura urging immediate action to stop the private tuition practices by government school teachers.
Following the complaint, show-cause notices were issued to 12 government teachers, instructing them to report to the office of Inspector of Schools, Belonia.Â
On Tuesday afternoon, 11 of the summoned teachers appeared and submitted written declarations denying involvement in private tuition.
Despite their denials, allegations persist against teachers from several schools, including Sonapur Higher Secondary School, Barpathari Higher Secondary School, Haripur SB School, Mon Pathar High School, Ajgar Rahmanpur Higher Secondary School, Nasirnagar Higher Secondary School, and Baganbari Higher Secondary School.
On being asked, the Inspector of School acknowledged that there are some cases of government teachers conducting private tuition. He confirmed that a committee would be formed to investigate the matter thoroughly.
