PRTC: Interest of locals shall be safeguarded, says CM

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday asserted that adequate steps would be undertaken to make sure that the interest of the locals remain safeguarded for public employment and government benefits. 

He was speaking at the state legislative assembly during the period allocated for short duration discussion on the state government’s decision to withdraw PRTC as a mandatory document for public employment. 

The Chief Minister assured the house that PRTC (Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate) was not being abolished. “I have noticed that people are trying to misinterpret the state government’s decision. False claims are being made from some quarters that PRTC is being abolished. The government has no intention to abolish PRTC and this document shall have the same force as it carried today,” he explained. 

On the state government’s decision to withdraw it as a mandatory document for public employment, the Chief Minister said, “The matter is sub-judice and hence the government is not in position to make any detailed response on it.” However, the Chief Minister said that the state government was trying to ensure that the interest of the locals remains protected. 

“No one should forget that it is this government that made PRTC mandatory for public employment. No other government had shown this courage earlier,” he added. 

He also referred to multiple issues pertaining to the matter. MLA Ranjit Debbarma of Tipra Motha Party raised the issue.
