Psychiatrists have high responsibility towards society: Tripura CM

Agartala, Oct 30: Psychiatrists are important part of society. They need to come forward in helping people at a marginal level beyond their regular routine, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
After inaugurating the 22nd annual conference of Indian Psychiatric Society, Tripura chapter at Manikya Enclave in Gurkhabasti on Sunday, he laid stress on the importance of raising mass awareness among the people regarding mental health issues.
According to the Chief Minister, psychiatrists have a major responsibility towards society since they deal with the metal health of the people.
Dr. Saha pointed out that drugs addiction is seriously harmful to mental health and the state government is taking strict action against this menace. He appealed to the medical fraternity to take more responsibility in this fight against drugs.
The Chief Minister also said, the state government is working with a priority to develop and expand health infrastructure.
Two renowned psychiatrists- Dr. A.K. Nath and Dr. Jiban Chakraborty were felicitated in the programme. The welcome address was delivered by the president of Indian Psychiatric Society, Tripura chapter- Dr. Dipayan Sarkar.
Health director Subhasis Debbarma, director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine department- Dr. Radha Debbarma, Dr. Priyajyoti Chakma, Dr. Harprasad Sharma and Dr. Swapan Chandra Barman were also present.
