Tripura’s crucial road infrastructure came under sharp focus in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, as BJP state president and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee raised pressing concerns over the condition of several national highways, including NH-8 (Mungiakami–Ambassa), NH-108B, NH-208B, and NH-208A.
In his address, Bhattacharjee highlighted the transformative progress made in the Northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership since 2014. He noted that Tripura, which once had only a single national highway, now boasts eight highways, with six completed and two still under construction.
Despite these achievements, Bhattacharjee drew attention to serious shortcomings. He pointed out that large potholes have developed along several stretches, severely impacting commuters, farmers transporting produce, ambulance services, and pedestrians. “This has created great difficulty in communication and mobility across the state,” he remarked.
The BJP leader urged the concerned ministry to take immediate corrective measures under the PM Gati Shakti initiative. He demanded a thorough survey of the affected roads and called for an increase in funds to expedite repair and maintenance work.
Bhattacharjee’s intervention underscores the dual reality of Tripura’s road network—rapid expansion under central schemes, yet persistent challenges in upkeep and safety. The issue is expected to remain a priority for both the state and central governments in the coming months.
