Agartala Jan 12: Minister of Tribal Welfare Rampada Jamatia on Thursday inaugurated the Centre of Excellence and also distributed tool kits to handicraft artisans at ITI, Indranagar in the capital city.
The tool kits handed over to the artisans comprises of three sectors; Improved toolkit set for Bamboo Furniture, Accessory Products and Weaving Basketry.
Special secretary Abhishek Chandra, Director Tarun Debbarma, Chairman Balai Goswasmi from the Directorate of Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture among others remained present at the program.
Addressing the program, Minister Rampada Jamatia said, “People can live without food and water for a while, but cannot live without clothes. This thought made me to take forward the Handloom and Handicrafts Industry with a motive to make textile acceptable among masses where there is already demand for it so that the government can earn revenue from the same”.
“Tripura has huge resource of human asset who can accumulate their knowledge and skill that can make the textile industry flourish further”, he said.
Hailing the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Jamatia said, “The BJP-led government both in the Centre as well as in the state is working towards achieving ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and in Tripura youths, women have achieved milestone in terms of self-reliance”.
Talking about the Centre of Excellence at ITI, Indranagar, the Tribal Welfare Minister said, it is a special institute for vocational training characterized by close links between institutes, training providers and other employment interests and communities.
With induction of advanced and specialized modular courses, youths, women and artisans of several genres can avail training of various kinds.
