Agartala, Mar 23: The doctors of GBP hospital, the prime referral hospital of tripura, achieved another milestone—successful operation of cardiac tumour of a woman patient.
The operation was conducted at free of cost under Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
The patient- Renu Begam (35) of Paschim Noabadi area was suffering from breathing problem for the past few months. When she was admitted in the GBP hospital, a tumor was spotted in the left chamber in her heart during medical examination at the CTVS department.
On March 20, a medical team led by eminent cardiac surgeon Dr. Kanaknarayan Bhattacharjee successfully conducted the heart surgery and removed the tumor (200 gm) after six-hour efforts. It is commonly as cardiac myxoma and such heart tuour is found in one person per 20 lakh people. This is for the first time that such a rare surgery was performed in the state hospital, according to a government press release.
The patient is recovering fast, according hospital sources.
The surgery team included cardiac anaesthesia specialist Dr. Manimoy Debbarma, Dr. Joydip Debnath, Perfusionist Sujan Sahu, surgeon assistant Sudipta Mandal, Scrub Nurse Jahir Hossain, Sourav Shil, Arpita Sarkar, Mousumi Debnath, Anna Bahadur Jamatia, Anaesthesia technician Jaydip Chakraborty, Ratan Mandal, Amrit Murasingh, coordinator Abhishek Dutta and Richashree Datta.
The patient’s family thanked the medical team for this successful operation.
