Refund or Flats: TUDA faces Customer Outrage

Anger boiled over at the Tripura Urban Planning & Development Authority (TUDA) office on Monday as frustrated homebuyers staged a protest demanding resolution of the long-pending Light House housing project at Border Gol Chakkar in Agartala.

The customers alleged that despite assurances of possession in 2022, nearly five years have passed without delivery of their flats. Many said they had already paid in two or three installments, yet construction progress remains negligible. “We invested our hard-earned money with the hope of securing a home, but our dream has turned into a nightmare,” one protester said.

Protesters accused TUDA of repeated commitments without action, warning that they could no longer wait indefinitely. Their demand was clear: either hand over the flats without further delay or refund the money with interest. “If they cannot provide the houses, they must return our money immediately, that too with interest,” asserted another beneficiary.

While TUDA officials have reportedly promised delivery by December 2026, customers expressed deep skepticism, pointing to the slow pace of work. “From the ongoing pace of construction, it seems even in the next 7–8 years we may not get our homes,” one protester remarked.

Several beneficiaries appealed directly to the Chief Minister, urging him to intervene and ensure justice. “We have faith in the Chief Minister. We humbly request him to take effective steps and resolve our plight,” said a customer.

The prolonged delay has left buyers disillusioned and angry, with many warning that if TUDA fails to meet its December 2026 deadline, they will intensify their demand for refunds with interest. As one protester summed up: “We cannot afford to be ignored any longer. We need a solution, and we need it now.”
