Agartala Jan 30: Battle lines have been drawn for elections to the 60-member assembly in Tripura, with the opposition CPIM and the Congress join hands to take on arch rival BJP while BJP continuing its alliance with former ally IPFT.
Besides, Trinamool Congress and TIPRA Motha are fighting all alone for selected assembly seats.
As the submission of nomination papers ended on Monday last, candidates of almost all political parties were seen on ground conducting public outreach program in a bid to seek votes from the common people.
Congress candidate Sushanta Chakraborty nominated from 18-Surjyamaninagar assembly constituency on Tuesday conducted door-to-door campaign in Dukli area.
Talking to the reporters, Chakraborty said, “I held talks with all the local leaders, intellectuals of the Surjyamaninagar area. It was a long time demand of the people under this constituency to remove the BJP from power an establish a people-oriented government”.
Sushanta Chakraborty added that the Congress activists have been working in the area since long time and also hoped to win the seat in the ensuing polls.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress candidates are also carrying out extensive campaigning in view of the assembly elections to be held on February 16 next.
TMC has put up Candidates in 27 assembly constituency out of 60-member Tripura assembly.
The candidates after submitting nominations on Monday started campaigning while betting on Mamata Banerjee led Bengal model of governance.
8-Twon Bordowali assembly constituency TMC Candidate Ananta Banerjee reached out to the voters in his area.
He said, “The BJP has given nothing to the people of Tripura in these 5 years. But if voted to power, TMC will implement all sort of facilities and schemes that the people of West Bengal are enjoying under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee led government”.
Santanu Saha, TMC Candidate from 9-Banamalipur assembly constituency also carried out door-to-door campaign on Tuesday.
He said, “For past 20-25 days we have been trying to reach out to every individual of Banamalipur area to make them aware of the party’s intention of setting up a peaceful and democratic atmosphere in Tripura”.
“TMC has raised up its voice on the real issues of common people in Tripura since 2.5 years and people are aware that it is only Mamata Banerjee led government that is perfect substitute of BJP”, he added.
On the other hand, Partha Pratim Sarkar, Forward Block candidate from 14-Badharghat assembly constituency conducted public outreach program.
Expressing confidence of winning the seat, Sarkar said, “People have realized that BJP gave them nothing except ‘Jumla’. The hope and aspirations of common people were ruined by the BJP and therefore they have decided to oust the party from power”.
