New Delhi, Mar 13: Both Houses of Parliament on Monday witnessed frequent disruptions following Opposition uproar on different issues, including price rise and ED summoning Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day when it reassembled in the afternoon, following postponement of a discussion over a crucial bill.
Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh proposed the postponement of the discussion over the Indian Antarctic Bill, 2022, stating that there was no Opposition member present as the crucial matter has come up for discussion for the first time.
He opined that the Opposition should have been in the house when such a crucial matter has come up for discussion. Stating that it will not be proper to pass an important bill without Opposition and proper discussion, the Minister proposed postponement of the discussion to some other day.
After taking the mood of the House into consideration, the Chair has adjourned the house for the day.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha witnessed protests by opposition parties over the issue of price rise, GST hike on essential items, MSP, and ED questioning of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
When the House met for the day, it was adjourned till 12 noon following a protest by the Congress over questioning of party President Sonia Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case.
Party MPs trooped into the well-displaying placards. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu warned them that he will have to name the agitating members but the MPs continued their protest
When the House reassembled at 12 noon, members from AAP, DMK, Left, and others trooped into the well, raising slogans against the government over price rise and GST hike.
Amid din, Deputy Chairman Harivansh tried to run the Question Hour while repeatedly urging the agitating members to go back to their seats.
Amid pandemonium, he adjourned the House for ten minutes till 12:35 PM. When the House met after the adjournment, the opposition continued with their protest and the House took up Question Hour amid ruckus.
In the morning, nominated member Veerendra Heggade was administered the oath by the Chairman.
