Agartala, Nov 25: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday said the number of road accidents has reduced by 6 percent in the state.
"The number of road accidents has come down by 6 percent while the number of vehicles has increased by around 30 percent. The decline in road accidents despite increase in number of vehicles indicates that the police and traffic unit are controlling things," the Chief Minister said.
He was addressing a programme in Agartala where the Chief Minister flagged-off four vehicles for patrolling on Agartala- Churaibari National Highway in presence of Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan.
Equipped with breath analysers and speedometers, the two vehicles will remain operational round the clock and help reduce traffic accidents, improve security coverage and enhance police’s response in case of any problem.
The Tripura Police earlier launched this 24x7 service on Agartala- Sabroom national highway covering four districts- West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura.
Now, the service has been launched on Agartala- Churaibari National Highway covering West Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai, Unakoti and North Tripura districts.
The Chief Minister lauded the initiative that aims to enhance safety and security and prevent transportation of drugs on National Highways.
He said, around 55,200 heavy vehicles enter Tripura from outside and ply on the national highway per month. When these vehicles would move on the road, the drivers and other people would remain alert.
